Abstract

This study was to understand post-traumatic stress experiences of female firefighers through in-depth analysis on trigger factors, characteristics, and coping methods. The participants in the study were nine female firefighters who were confirmed to have experienced PTS with a total score of 25 or higher on the IES-R-K(Impact Event Scale-Revised). Colaizzi's phenomenological method was used to analyze the raw data of the in-depth interviews with them. As a result of the analysis, 107 constitutive meanings, 35 themes, and 13 subject groups were derived. The results of this study provide implications for the development of PTS response programs, including the necessity of female firefighters, social support, and training of PTS counselors for PTS prevention and response.
